OVERVIEW
Innovative and useful design to make the day to day easier
Mousetrap is a conceptual group project that aimed towards creating and designing a package that could be repurposed. The project we created for ourselves was to package a computer mouse that could also be used as a mouse pad. We also decided that the packaging could be useful as a mouse pad, since mouse pads aren’t the most portable or memorable item to take with you.
Packaging Challenge
The idea for this packaging came from a random brainstorm supported by a random item generator. After fumbling around with ideas a bit the stand out of reusable packaging as a mouse pad was born. It was a challenge looking for and designing a pattern for this purpose as this was an idea that had apparently not existed in this form before, so there wasn't any previous packaging that could inform the new design.
After hours of pouring over package design books, this simple pillow box shape seemed the most feasible for covering the purpose of packaging and mouse pad.

Final Packaging
The prototype is made of neoprene, felt, and a thick card stock. We used these materials because they are light and thin but still rigid enough to create support and provide protection. Our logotype envelopes the essence of the folding packaging while utilizing different shades to create depth and interest.
